Veteran Nollywood star Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has finally spoken about the famous “ban” that shook the movie industry back in 2005. During an interview with Yanga FM, she explained how she and seven other A-list actors, including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, and RMD, were blacklisted by powerful movie marketers.
These marketers claimed the actors were a bad influence, but Omotola said the real reason was that they were pushing for better pay, higher standards, and more professionalism.
She described the situation in plain terms, saying, “Marketers said we too get Wahala because we dey try better the industry then, and that our wahala too much—that we are a bad influence on the industry because we dey push for standards.” While other actors went back to the marketers after a year to settle the beef, Omotola’s ban lasted much longer because she refused to attend their meeting.
Instead of begging, she used that time to start her music career and invest in real estate. Looking back, she says the ban didn’t stop her progress; it only pushed her to become a successful businesswoman outside of acting.
