Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has spoken candidly about the painful realities she faced during her marriage to her former husband, Charles Ekwu, recounting emotional and financial struggles that marked the relationship before it eventually ended. The actress made the revelations during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast. A video clip from the interview, which was shared on Instagram, shows the actress becoming visibly emotional as she reflected on the difficult period of her life.
During the conversation, Anunobi addressed her former husband directly while narrating her account of the marriage, emphasizing that her statements were truthful and not intended to malign him. “Charles Ekwu, if you see this video, just know I am not lying against you,” she said recounting the circumstances that surrounded their union and the challenges she endured throughout the relationship.
The actress further disclosed that she had received warnings from her parents before entering the marriage but chose to remain hopeful that the relationship would improve with time.
According to her, she held firmly to the promises that had been made during the early stages of the relationship, believing that the commitment to stand by each other in difficult times would be honored.
Speaking tearfully about that period, she said, “I still held onto the marriage believing that it’s alright, we will be fine. He’s the same person that said he would be there with me through thick and thin.”
Anunobi also described the marriage as one that became emotionally draining and financially demanding, alleging that she bore the majority of the responsibilities during the union. She explained that despite the concerns raised by her parents, she continued to persevere in the relationship before eventually realising the reality of the situation. Reflecting on those warnings, she said, “He is the same person that my parents said, ‘Eucharia, this guy is not it for you.’ I was the one doing everything. Charles never brought one naira.”
