British drill rapper Central Cee has officially announced his conversion to Islam. During a recent livestream, the Band 4 Band crooner shared the big news with his fans, revealing that he has already taken his shahada (the Islamic declaration of faith). He told his followers, “I just changed my name and took my shahada, I am a Muslim now,” while his friends in the background cheered and congratulated him.
Although he was born Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, the rapper mentioned that he has also chosen a new Muslim name, with some reports suggesting he has picked the name Akhil, which means “wise” or “intelligent.”
Before this announcement, Central Cee hadn’t really talked about having a specific religion, though fans had spotted him at mosques in the past. Born and raised in London with a multicultural background, he has grown from a young boy writing lyrics in Shepherd’s Bush to one of the biggest names in UK drill music.
