Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, has instructed all political appointees to resign their positions immediately, just twenty-four hours after taking office for a second term.
The Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) issued an official circular on March 18, 2026, directing impacted appointees to assign duties to permanent secretaries or, in their absence, the highest-ranking civil servant in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The memo states that, pending the formation of a new government, the handover must be finished by the end of business on the same day.
The announcement stated, “Until a new cabinet is constituted, I am directed to inform all political appointees to turn over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today.”
Additionally, the government mandated that the governor meet with all first-term cabinet members at the ANSEC Chambers on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, signed the directive.
As Governor Soludo gets ready to reassemble his executive team for the upcoming term, the move officially dissolves the current cabinet and ushers in a new administrative cycle.
