Former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung has once again stirred the pot with a stinging critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political legacy. Speaking during a recent interview, the famously outspoken ex-minister described Tinubu as a “dwarf” in Nigerian political history when compared to legendary icons like Sir Ahmadu Bello (the Sardauna of Sokoto) and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Dalung argued that the current administration’s policies have failed to match the visionary leadership of the First Republic titans. He claimed that while leaders like Awolowo and the Sardauna built lasting institutions and prioritized the welfare of the masses, the current political landscape is dominated by “transactional politics” that favors a few.
“Tinubu is a dwarf in Nigerian political history, and he should not be compared with great leaders like Sardauna and Awolowo,” Dalung stated. He further suggested that trying to put the President in the same bracket as these “founding fathers” is a disservice to history, as their legacies were built on sacrifice and regional development rather than just the acquisition of power.
This isn’t the first time Dalung has been critical of the APC-led government. Since leaving office, he has frequently called out the party for what he describes as a departure from its original promises to Nigerians. His comments have already sparked a heated debate, with supporters of the president pointing to his “Renewed Hope” agenda as a modern blueprint for a complex, 21st-century Nigeria.
