“Fela is incomparable” – Femi Kuti weighs in on Fela-Wizkid comparisons.

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti—the eldest son of renowned Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti—has commented on the current controversy comparing singer Wizkid to his late father.

In response to Seun Kuti’s criticism of both Wizkid and his followers for the comparison, Wizkid asserted that he is “bigger” than Fela, sparking a heated debate. Femi stated that he hoped the dispute had never happened in a Skype interview with Arise TV from Los Angeles, highlighting his positive ties with both Wizkid and Seun Kuti, who are at the core of the controversy.

He called the disagreement “a misplaced focus” and said that instead of getting involved in such arguments, up-and-coming artists should focus on solving important concerns and promoting better governance. Femi stated that Fela has a special place in music history and is unlike any other performer. He went on to say that respect and adoration are due to the late Afrobeat legend.

“Fela is our father, and even younger artists show him respect. The Fela vs. Wizkid discussion shouldn’t even be an issue. Fela set the standard for music and artistry in Nigeria. He belongs in a league of his own, and we should simply idolize and honor him. I don’t want to get involved in Seun and Wizkid’s matter because Seun is my brother, and Wizkid is like a son to me. I just wish it hadn’t arisen.”
