Popular skit maker and actor Cute Abiola has come out to defend himself after people accused him of shading the famous movie director Kunle Afolayan. This drama started when Afolayan complained about how the cinema business works in Nigeria.
The movie producer said he is tired of the heavy marketing needed for cinemas and doesn’t see the point of a movie making 1 billion or 2 billion Naira if the producer only walks away with a tiny 10 million Naira.
In his interview, Afolayan even mentioned Funke Akindele, saying he doesn’t know how people like her manage to keep up with the stress of daily skits and constant costume changes.
This comment didn’t sit well with Funke Akindele, who suggested that Afolayan was simply jealous of her success. Right in the middle of this heat, Cute Abiola—who is close to Funke—posted on X that people should avoid anything that will turn them into an “old taker.”
Many Nigerians immediately felt he was mocking Afolayan, but Cute Abiola has now fired back at those fans. He insisted that his post was just a personal motivational quote and had nothing to do with the filmmaker, whom he calls his leader. He was quite angry with the commenters, saying, “Just to clarify, this tweet was not directed at Kunle Afolayan or anyone in the industry.” He ended his post by raining curses on those trying to start a fight between him and his senior colleague.
