A Nigerian preacher sparked heated feedback on social media after giving advice about relationships, breakups, and gifts from romantic partners. In a widely shared video on X (previously Twitter), @ChukEricE told a story about a woman and her ex-boyfriend while speaking to his churchgoers. He claimed that after their breakup, the woman’s ex took back a store he had opened for her, and he insisted that the man was not evil for getting back what he had paid for.
“How can your boyfriend buy a car for you and you say you will not date again and still keep the car? You are a thief,” said the pastor.
He further emphasized that no one has the right to keep presents from a former partner and that all benefits associated with a relationship must end when it does.
Additionally, he refers to purchases made during a relationship as “official properties” connected to what he referred to as a girlfriend’s office.
It’s an official vehicle. It’s for a girlfriend’s office. You return to your father’s house after leaving the office, leaving behind your wig, iPhone, car, shoes, and home,” he said.Since then, the sermon has caused division among Nigerians online.
Some criticized the pastor for encouraging control and entitlement in relationships, while others agreed with his position that presents should be returned following a breakup.
