Well-known Nigerian singer Chike shares the useful marital advice his mother gave him in an open conversation on Ada’s Room podcast.
He recently appeared on the Ada’s Room podcast on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, where he disclosed that his mother strongly advised him against getting married for love alone, adding that a partner must bring real value to his life.
According to his mother’s advice, Chike clarified, being married to an unemployed woman or someone from a financially dependent household might swiftly turn a marriage into a major financial strain. In his words, “I believe that everyone should seek out a valuable partner, personally, my mom told me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love.”
The musician also revealed that his mother had warned him about the special circumstances of family responsibility, especially with regard to firstborn children. He mentioned that she cautioned him against getting married to someone who has a lot of family responsibilities, especially if they aren’t really productive. “She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive,” he added.
