In his words, “I still have about 18 screws in my face from my previous operation and I can’t even eat properly on the right side,” recalling the reconstructive surgery that saved his career following a match against Milan Škriniar of Inter Milan. The striker described eating as a “daily reminder” of the accident because of nerve damage and the placement of titanium plates, which cause numbness and limited movement on the affected side.
The 27-year-old forward used the revelation to minimize the seriousness of his most recent injury, a fractured right forearm he suffered earlier this week at Anfield during Galatasaray’s Champions League match against Liverpool.
