Alex Iwobi Hails Debutants Fernandez and Nwaiwu After Nigeria’s Win Over Iran

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has praised two debut players, Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu, following their first appearance for Nigeria.

The two defenders came off the bench in the second half of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly win over Iran in March, held in Antalya, Turkey.

Goals from Akor Adams and Moses Simon secured the victory for Eric Chelle’s side. Speaking on the match during an appearance on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, Iwobi said, “Nice to get the win. Credit to Iran—they’re a good, solid team.

“Credit to us, we got the two goals we needed. Shout out to the two center-backs who played the second half on their debuts.

“They did well—they did solid. It was a good performance. We won, and that gives us a confidence boost.”
