Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate and comedian DeeOne has publicly challenged former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to reconsider his approach to politics if he intends to be a serious contender in the 2027 election. In a viral Instagram video shared on Saturday, February 14, 2026, DeeOne reacted to the growing influence of the “City Boy Movement,” a support group established by the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu, which has recently appointed prominent figures like Obi Cubana as its South-East Zonal Coordinator.
The comedian pointed out that the strategic recruitment of former Obi supporters and wealthy influencers by the pro-Tinubu group is a clear sign that “presidential election no be cho cho cho” and requires significant “workings” on the ground.
DeeOne criticized Obi’s famous “we no dey give shishi” mantra, arguing that while it may have garnered sympathy in the 2023 polls, it will not be enough to win a future election. He shared alleged accounts of Labour Party agents being neglected at polling units during the last election, claiming that some were so hungry and thirsty that they had to accept food and water from rival parties.
“You cannot win presidential election with sympathy votes,” he warned, advising Obi that he must be willing to spend his own money or transparently manage donations to ensure his foot soldiers are well-supported. He noted that even in established democracies like the United States, candidates like Donald Trump have spent millions of their own funds on their campaigns.
The comedian emphasized that telling Obi the truth does not mean one is against him, but rather that his supporters want him to succeed. He urged the former governor to move beyond the strategy of pricing groundnuts in public and instead focus on building a robust, well-funded political structure that can compete with the organized mobilization currently being seen from the APC.
DeeOne concluded his video by highlighting that the risk taken by agents in the field should at least be met with basic provisions, stating, “If Mr Peter Obi does not have his own money to spend on his own ambition, then he should call his own followers and ask them to donate and he will give account of how he spent the money.”
